Mary Shi, University of Michigan

Present Professional Position
LSA Collegiate Fellow, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor, MI, August 2024-Present

Personal Statement:
I am honored to be nominated to serve as a student representative for SKAT. We are in a moment where it is increasingly clear to the public that political, economic, and social struggles are intimately tied up with competing claims of what is true. As our academic institutions and the legitimacy of the knowledge produced therein is under attack, I am dedicated to maintaining SKAT as a space uniquely well positioned to respond to the current moment. This will require action on multiple fronts, from analyzing the various knowledges and counter-knowledges circulating in the public sphere, to understanding the new imbrications of state power, Silicon Valley capital, and techno-imaginaries being forged today, and more. I see feminist, queer, and decolonial approaches as essential to not only analyzing these developments, but also to building the solidarities necessary to move beyond this moment. It would be a privilege to work towards these ends with my fellow SKATers on section council.
